Specialty White COB LEDs
What is a COB LED chip?
Chip-on-Board or "COB" refers to the mounting of bare LED chips in direct contact with a substrate (e.g. silicon carbide or sapphire) to produce an array of LEDs. COB LEDs have many advantages over older LED technologies, such as surface mount device ("SMD") LEDs.
Why is chip-on-board more advantageous than encapsulated LEDs?
Chip-on-Board (COB) technology allows for much higher package density than surface mount technology due to the smaller size of the LED chip compared to the package LED. This results in higher intensity and higher uniformity for the user.
The advantages of Chip-on-Board LED arrays are
• Compactness, due to the small size of the LED chips
• High intensity, especially at close range
• High uniformity, even at very close working distances
• Optimal thermal performance, longer lifetime, stability and reliability
Chip-on-board LED technology offers many advantages over surface mount LEDs. The LED package density achievable with chip-on-board technology allows lighting suppliers to offer high intensity, high uniformity and compact solutions for a variety of applications. Getian leverages over 15 years of chip-on-board technology experience to provide COB solutions to OEMs and system integrators worldwide.
